I have a background in financial services but I'm wondering if it's worth exploring other sectors that might be more naturally flexible. Has anyone switched industries when returning, and would you recommend it?
Tech and digital marketing have been brilliant in my experience — a lot of roles are remote-first and output-focused rather than hours-focused. Education (especially edtech) and the charity sector also tend to be flexible.
NHS admin and healthcare support roles often have term-time and school-hours options. Not glamorous but reliable, good holiday allowance, and genuinely family-friendly.
Financial services is actually more flexible than you might think post-pandemic — especially in compliance, risk, and back-office roles. Lots of hybrid 2-3 days a week now. Don't write it off!
