Using LinkedIn after a career break — top tips?

My LinkedIn profile is embarrassingly out of date. I've been putting off updating it because I'm not sure what to say about the last few years. Any advice for making it work for you as a returner?

Add a career break entry — LinkedIn now has a built-in option for it under 'Add position'. You can select 'Career break' as the type and add reasons like 'Childcare'. It normalises the gap without any awkward blank space.

Update your headline straight away — even if you're not currently working, you can put 'Marketing Manager | Open to flexible opportunities'. Recruiters search by headline.

Start engaging with content before you apply for anything. Like and comment on posts in your industry. It warms up your network and gets your name visible again without the pressure of a direct job application.
