Returning after 3 years — feeling overwhelmed, any advice?

Hi everyone. I left my job as a marketing manager when my twins were born three years ago and I'm finally ready to start looking again. I feel like so much has changed — especially around digital skills and AI tools. Has anyone else been in this position? How did you get back up to speed?

I was in the same position last year after a 4-year gap. What helped me most was doing a few free online courses — Google's Digital Garage is brilliant and completely free. It gave me confidence and something concrete to put on my CV.

Definitely don't undersell your transferable skills from being at home! Project management, budgeting, negotiating with contractors — it all counts. I reframed my CV around competencies rather than job titles and got way more responses.

LinkedIn Learning has a lot of free content too if you have a basic account. I did the project management fundamentals course and it really helped me feel less behind.

The overwhelm is real but it does pass! I'm 6 months back in and it already feels normal again. Give yourself grace — you haven't forgotten how to do your job, you've just been doing a different (harder) one.
